Spirit Mountain Is Now Offering Handcrafted Coffee Soaps and Scrubs

Scented with espresso fragrance oil, the soap smells so good you’ll want to eat it - but please don’t. The bottom half of the bar uses fresh grounds for a gentle exfoliation. This soap contains sustainably farmed Palm Oil. The exfoliating scrub is made with fresh, brewed coffee grounds, organic turbinado sugar, organic castile soap, and espresso fragrance oil.

This partnership was conceived when Tudor Montague, founder and head roaster of Spirit Mountain Roasting Company, met Arianna Johnny-Wadsworth, founder of Quw’utsun’ Made through the Native Entrepreneur In Residence (NEIR) program. They quickly found that they shared an interest in each other’s craft and realized they could combine specialty coffee and artisan craftswomanship to create new product lines. Founded in 2014, the NEIR program provides a space for Native American Entrepreneur to network and grow. To date the program has created 157 new jobs and $9.6 million in revenue. 

Quw’utsun’ Made was founded by Arianna in 2016 in the small tribal community of Swinomish, WA. Arianna and respected siiem Brandon made a few batches of candles and salves and traveled to local pow-wows and native art markets. Through these local events Arianna connected with Northwest Indian College and was given the opportunity to work as a traditional plant knowledge keeper at the college and Little Bear Creek, Retirement & Assisted Living in Lummi, WA. In Lummi Arianna learned the importance of providing good medicine for elders through sustainable skin care. Each visit Arianna would see the impact the plants had on the elder's wellness. They were reunited with teachings they had to give up generations ago that aided in the healing of their diabetes and arthritis. Her connection to devils club & nettles inspired her product lines. From these early days with the elders until now, Arianna has been travelling all over Turtle Island sharing plant knowledge & her products with both the indigenous community & settler guests.
